New Delhi: Janata Dal (United) on Thursday targeted the country’s main opposition party after the Election Commission rejected Congress’s allegations related to irregularities in the Haryana Assembly elections and advised it to take this ‘rebuke’ seriously. We should desist from ‘tarnishing’ the mandate in future.
JD(U) national spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad in a statement, citing the reply given by the Election Commission, said that this should shock the Congress. The Election Commission on Tuesday rejected Congress’s allegations related to irregularities in the Haryana Assembly elections, saying the party was creating the same kind of doubt about the credibility of the overall election results as it had done in the past.
In a letter sent to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, the Commission said such ‘frivolous and baseless’ suspicions have the potential to create ‘unrest’, especially at a crucial stage like voting and counting, when the anxiety among political parties and the public is at its peak. it occurs.
In the assembly elections held on October 5 in Haryana, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained its power by winning 48 out of 90 seats, while Congress won 37, INLD won two and independents won three seats.
According to the eight-page letter, the Congress had raised questions and sought clarification on the battery level showing at 99 per cent on the ‘control unit’ of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during counting at some polling stations in 26 assembly seats of Haryana.
The Commission said, hidden in this concern was the possibility of the ‘Control Unit’ being changed. After the Election Commission’s reply, Prasad reacted to this and said, “The Commission has once again shown the mirror to the Congress. He said that whenever Congress loses elections, it blames the Commission and sometimes raises questions on Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and sometimes on the decisions of the Commission.
He said, “Congress and the constituents of the ‘India’ alliance have been doing this work of repeatedly bringing the mandate under the ambit of controversies. Congress is a part of the opposition alliance ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’. The main component is the party. It also includes other opposition parties like Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Samajwadi Party.
Prasad said that the Commission has given a detailed reply to the Congress on the basis of talks with the concerned parties and after ‘very logical consideration’. He said, “Now, Congress should come to its senses. Where she wins, the EVMs and the Commission are praised and where she loses, it has become her habit to raise questions on the EVMs and the Commission.
He said, “It is hoped that the Congress will take this rebuke of the Commission seriously and will never try to tarnish the mandate in future.” Responding to the allegations of the Congress, the Commission had also said that any statutory election Despite ‘no evidence’ that the move was compromised, the Congress is raising the same doubts about the credibility of the election results as it has done in the past.
The Commission urged the Congress to take concrete steps to change its approach in line with the party’s grand and illustrious status.
