Mumbai. The Bombay High Court on Thursday refused to stay the release of the film ‘Match Fixing: The Nation at Stake’ based on the 2008 Malegaon blast, saying it is a fictional film. A division bench of Justice BP Colabawala and Justice Somashekhar Sundaresan rejected the plea of Lt Col Prasad Purohit, accused in the case. In the petition, a request was made to ban the film, claiming that it would affect the trial. Purohit’s lawyer said that the film talked about ‘saffron terrorism’.
Purohit claimed that the film releasing on November 15 has tarnished his image. The filmmaker told the court that it is a fictional film based on a book already available in the market. The producer also said that a ‘disclaimer’ will be shown at the beginning of the film that the film is based on fictional events and characters and has no connection with any person living or dead. After a brief hearing on the arguments, the bench suggested minor changes which were accepted by the manufacturer.
