Dantewada. Thirteen people have been admitted to the hospital in the capital Raipur due to eye infection after cataract surgery in a government hospital in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. Officials gave this information on Monday. Officials said that after the incident, the Health Department has ordered an investigation into the matter. He said that three health workers of Dantewada District Hospital have been suspended in this case, including the doctor who performed the surgery.
Shubhra Thakur, Public Relations Officer of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Raipur, said that 13 patients from Dantewada are admitted in the hospital for the last five-six days and their treatment is going on. According to Thakur, the condition of the patients is said to be stable.
Dantewada District Magistrate Mayank Chaturvedi said that all the 13 people who had eye infection had undergone cataract surgery at Dantewada District Hospital between October 18 and 22.
He said that when one or two cases came to light, we directed to trace the patients who had undergone surgery in the hospital in the last 15-20 days, so that their eye condition could be checked. According to Chaturvedi, 80 patients were examined during this period, out of which a total of 13 patients were found to have eye infection. He told that all these patients have been shifted to Raipur for treatment.
According to Chaturvedi, even after information about infection in a patient who underwent surgery on October 18 came to light, the doctors concerned continued performing the surgery till October 22 and allegedly did not inform senior officials about the case of infection.
He told that Dantewada District Hospital has four operation theaters and the target is to operate cataract on 20 patients every week.
Chaturvedi said, “So far we have examined the patients who underwent operations between October 10 and October 22. The investigation team found that the standard procedure for cataract surgery was not followed properly and the operation theater was not properly cleaned before the surgery.” State Health and Family Welfare Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal told reporters that prima facie negligence was found on the part of eye surgeon Dr. Geeta Netam, eye assistant officer Deepti Toppo and hospital staff nurse Mamta Vaide and all three were suspended with immediate effect on Sunday. Was suspended.
Jaiswal said that a notice has been issued to the Superintendent of Dantewada District Hospital to reply in this regard.
Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over this incident. This did not happen even once in our government. “Vishnu’s good governance has proved ineffective and unsuccessful.”
Congress has formed a six-member team under the chairmanship of Bastar MLA Lakheshwar Baghel to investigate this incident. Even during the Raman Singh-led BJP government in Chhattisgarh, there were cases of eye infections in people after cataract operations in government hospitals.
