New Delhi. A pistol was recovered from the school bag of a 10-year-old student in Najafgarh, the national capital, police said on Sunday. Police said the student thought it was a toy and took it with him to school. According to a senior police officer, the incident took place at a private school in Deepak Vihar area on Saturday.
The officer said that the Najafgarh police station received information about this, after which on reaching the school, the police team found that the class six student had his father’s licensed pistol in his bag. The pistol did not have a magazine. The school management called the student’s mother, who said that her husband had a licensed pistol.
The officer said, “The woman told that her husband had died a few months ago and she had kept the pistol outside to deposit it in the police station.” The officer said that the child told the police team that he thought it was a toy.
The police verified the license of the pistol, found it valid and found that no cognizable offence had been committed in the case.
The officer said, “The pistol was deposited in the police warehouse by the student’s mother the same day.”
