Bengaluru. In the Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided that Indian players who have not played any international match in at least five calendar years will be considered as ‘uncapped’ players.
However, it is believed that this step was taken so that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) could retain their star cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who last played for the country in the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-finals.
According to the BCCI release, “If an Indian player has not played in the starting eleven in international cricket (Test matches, ODIs, Twenty20 Internationals) in the last five calendar years before the conduct of the relevant season or does not have a BCCI central contract So a ‘capped’ (who has played at international level) Indian player will become ‘uncapped’ (who has not played international cricket). “At the Governing Council meeting on Saturday, it was decided that the 10 franchises will be allowed to retain a maximum of six players from their previous team which will also include a ‘Right to Match’ (RTM) card from the auction. , which will be worth Rs 75 crore out of the increased team purse of Rs 120 crore.
The cost of retaining an ‘uncapped’ player will be Rs 4 crore, so even if CSK retains Dhoni, it can definitely save a lot for the auction. In the last mega auction, a team was allowed to retain four players in 2022. There will also be special rules for foreign players because selected English and Australian players often leave their franchises after being selected in the auction citing fatigue and other priorities.
BCCI is thus planning to impose a two-year ban on any player who withdraws after being selected in the auction.
According to the release, “Any foreign player will have to register for the auction. If the foreign player does not register, he will be ineligible for registration in the next year’s player auction. It said, “Any player who registers for the auction and after being selected in the auction makes himself unavailable before the start of the season, he will be banned from participating in the tournament and auction for two seasons.” “Language Namita Pant
