Disabled people are not a burden on society: Governor Deka

Raipur. The ‘Divya Kala Shakti’ program was held here today under the chief hospitality of Governor Ramen Deka. In which the disabled people displayed their artistic talent. On this occasion, the first lady of the state Rani Deka Kakoti, Raipur MP Brijmohan Agarwal along with public representatives and disabled entrepreneurs and artists from all over the country were present.

On this occasion, Governor Deka said that Divyangjans are not a burden on the society but contribute to the progress of the nation. He said that Divyangjans should not be considered as an object of sympathy. There should be a change in the attitude of the society towards them. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, everyone including Divyangjans have been included in an inclusive manner under “Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas”. Divyangjans have to be made to feel that they are also an important part of the society. For their development, more attention will have to be paid to accessible infrastructure in public places, availability of accessible means of transport, easy access to technology. Such stories etc. should also be included in the curriculum of children, which awakens a feeling of compassion towards Divyangjans in them, but they should treat them like normal people.

Governor Deka said that organising events like “Divya Kala Mela and Divya Kala Shakti” by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of India to showcase the talents of the disabled and empower them is a highly commendable step. Such events make the disabled feel that the entire society stands with them and is encouraging them.

Governor Deka said that the Government of India as well as the Government of Chhattisgarh are running several schemes to make the life of the disabled easier. The department is also providing loans at low interest rates along with assistive devices to the disabled. He said that along with educating the disabled, providing them employment opportunities, providing vocational training, giving priority in housing allotment and giving special assistance to their families will enable the disabled to contribute equally to the progress of society and the nation.

On this occasion, Raipur MP Brijmohan Agrawal said that Divyangjans have different kinds of specialties and they are performing their duties very well in many fields. He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Virendra Kumar for announcing the construction of Divyang Park in Raipur. It is noteworthy that from 17 to 22 August, Divyang craftsmen and entrepreneurs from 16 states are marketing their crafts in Raipur, which has been highly appreciated by the people of Chhattisgarh. MLA Purandar Mishra, Managing Director Naveen Shah, Director Social Welfare Roktima Yadav and Divyangjans from various states were present in the program.
