Durg. A suspicious case of human sacrifice has come to light in Durg district of Chhattisgarh, in which a man allegedly killed his grandmother, offered her blood on Shivalinga and then tried to commit suicide. Police gave this information on Sunday. Dhamdha sub-divisional police officer Sanjay Pundhir said that superstition appears to be the reason behind the incident that took place on Saturday evening in Nankatti village under Nandini police station area.
After receiving information from local residents, police reached the spot and sent the body of a woman named Rukmani Goswami (70) for postmortem. The officer said that accused Gulshan Goswami (30) is admitted in the hospital in a critical condition. He said that according to preliminary information, Gulshan lived with his grandmother in a room near Lord Shiva’s temple and visited the temple daily for worship.
The officer said that on Saturday evening, he allegedly killed the grandmother with a trident kept in the house and took her blood to the temple and offered it on the Shivalinga. He said that the man returned home and attempted suicide by hitting the same trident on his neck, due to which he got seriously injured. The official said that Gulshan has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) located in the state capital Raipur. Pundhir said, prima facie it appears to be a case of superstition. A case has been registered in this regard and investigation has been started.”
