Indore/Ujjain. President Draupadi Murmu said on Thursday that women need to be encouraged to acquire higher education and become self-reliant to achieve the goal of making India the most developed nation in the world by 2047. The President called for half the population to get help from every section in this regard.
“I would like to tell all educational institutions and teachers to encourage daughters to pursue higher education and become self-reliant because we want to make India the most developed and leading country by 2047,” she said at the Diamond Jubilee convocation of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya here. “Therefore, as half of the population, we all need to support and encourage women to move forward,” she said.
If with your support and guidance our daughters dream big and make them come true, only then will you be able to truly participate in the country’s development.” The President emphasized that among the meritorious students to whom he awarded gold and silver medals in the convocation ceremony, the number of girl students is more than that of boys. In his convocation speech, he laid special emphasis on the concept of collective development.
The President said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the slogan of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Prayas’. Collective development is necessary to take the country forward. Therefore, to bring the backward people forward (in the race of development), not only the government but everyone’s cooperation is necessary.” He said, “Always remember that your own development lies in everyone’s development. Only your livelihood and the development of your family should not be your goal.” The President remembered Devi Ahilyabai, the ruler of the former Holkar dynasty of Indore, in the year of her 300th birth anniversary for her efficient administration, justice, women empowerment, public welfare works and her historic contribution in the fields of tribal development.
The President said, “The life of Devi Ahilyabai is an example of the fact that women can bring revolutionary changes by being active in all fields including political, social, economic and spiritual.” He said that Devi Ahilyabai understood the importance of education even in the 18th century and her father educated her at a time when it was not common for girls to study and people of the society also opposed it.
