He said the accused – Arshad Rahmatullah Ghazi (52), Ali Mohammed Dinmohammed Mandal (56), Miraj Saheb Mandal (19), Sajjad Kadir Mandal (45) and Saheb Panchanan Sardar (45) – allegedly did not have valid documents to stay in India.
The officer said that the accused had entered India via the river about 10 years ago and were working as daily wage labourers. According to the officer, on Monday the police have started investigation by registering an FIR under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act-1946 and the Passport (Entry into India) Act-1950.
Assam: Security forces foiled the attempt of three Bangladeshis to infiltrate into India
Security forces have foiled the attempt of three Bangladeshis to infiltrate into India through Assam. State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma gave this information on Tuesday. Sharma said in a post released on the social media platform ‘X’ that the Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Police showed alertness and stopped three ‘illegal Bangladeshi intruders’ including two women from entering India on the international border on Monday.
He said that the three Bangladeshis have been identified as Anwar Hussain, Nashrin Sheikh and Babli Sheikh. Sharma, however, did not say at which place or in which sector this infiltration attempt was foiled. Assam’s Karimganj, Cachar, Dhubri and South Salmara-Mankachar districts share a 267.5 km long international border with Bangladesh.
There is an Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Sutarkandi in Karimganj. There are a total of three ICPs in the Northeast, the other two being located at Dawki in Meghalaya and Akhaura in Tripura. Assam Director General of Police G P Singh had earlier said the state police and the BSF were taking all possible steps under the law to prevent the entry of any non-Indian from Bangladesh. However, Indian passport holders will be allowed to enter the country from trouble-torn Bangladesh through the state’s entry points, he said.
