Indore. A 53-year-old man in Indore lived with the corpse of his live-in partner for at least three days and later left it in a sack on the road as he did not have money for the last rites, a police official said on Monday. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nandini Sharma told PTI that the corpse of a 57-year-old woman was found in a sack in Chandan Nagar area on Sunday. She said the woman’s body was four-five days old and had decomposed a lot.
The ACP said, “We did not find any injury marks on the woman’s body. The postmortem revealed that she was suffering from liver problems and other diseases for a long time due to which she died a natural death.” Sharma said that this woman was living with a man for the last 10 years. He said, “When we reached this 53-year-old man, he was sitting in a garden in Rajmohalla area. He does painting work. He is a little mentally weak.” The ACP said that four-five days ago, this man’s neighbors told him that there was a foul smell coming from his house and he should check whether any rat had died in his house.
He said, “Investigation has revealed that this person was living with the dead body of the woman in his house for at least three days. After the neighbors complained about the smell, he put the body in a sack on Saturday night and took it about 200 meters away from his house. When he started breathing due to the weight of the body, he left the body unattended on the road and disappeared.” According to the ACP, this person told the police during interrogation that he left the body of his “live-in” partner unattended because he did not have money for her last rites. He said that a detailed investigation is going on in the case of the woman’s death and appropriate legal steps will be taken on its basis. Chandan Nagar police station in-charge Indramani Patel said that the police cremated the woman’s body on Monday.
