Health services in government hospitals of Bengal affected due to doctors’ strike

The Uncut

Kolkata: R.G. Health services in government hospitals in West Bengal remained affected for the third consecutive day on Thursday due to a strike by junior doctors demanding justice and safety at workplaces for the postgraduate trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at Kar Medical College and Hospital.

This is the second time when junior doctors of government hospitals of Bengal have gone on a ‘work strike’ with their demands. On August 9, R.G. The doctors had gone on strike after the dead body of a female doctor was found in Kar Hospital. They partially returned to work and resumed essential services on 21 September after 42 days, after the government promised to address most of their concerns.

However, the doctors again stopped work from Tuesday, accusing the government of not fulfilling its promises. Aniket Mahata, one of the doctors leading the movement, told PTI that the government has not yet invited us for talks on our demands. Doctors have also expressed concern over the pace of CBI investigation into the doctor’s rape and murder case.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the junior doctors claimed that the investigation by the central agency was slow and they were disappointed. Apart from demanding speedy justice for the deceased doctor, the agitating doctors are also demanding the removal of the state health secretary and more police security in hospitals.
