Bahraich: An FIR has been lodged in connection with the alleged triple talaq by her husband and harassment by her in-laws after a newly-wed Muslim woman praised the work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the beautification of Ayodhya, police said on Friday.
“In her complaint, the victim has mentioned the August 5 incident of Ayodhya, in which, after a mutual dispute, allegations of burning with hot dal and other charges have been made,” Jarwal Road station house officer (SHO) Brijraj Prasad told PTI.
According to the SHO, “Although a settlement was reached between the two parties in Ayodhya police station on the same day (August 5), but later the matter of triple talaq and death threats came to light.” Quoting the victim, he said that she had gone to Ayodhya police, but the case was not registered there. It is not known why this happened.
SHO said, “The victim’s maternal home is in Jarwal Road, Bahraich. On Thursday, based on her complaint, a case has been registered against eight people including husband Arshad, mother-in-law Raisha, father-in-law Islam, sister-in-law Kulsum, brother-in-law Faran and Shafaq, sister-in-law Simran under serious sections including Dowry Prohibition Act and legal action is being taken.” Police sources said that in this case, a case has been registered against eight accused in Jarwal Road police station of Bahraich under assault, abuse, threat and Dowry Prohibition Act and Muslim Women Marriage Rights Protection Act.
On Thursday, a video also came on social media in which the woman can be heard saying, “On December 13, 2023, I was married to Arshad, son of Islam, a resident of Mohalla Delhi Darwaza of Kotwali Nagar, Ayodhya. My father got me married with the consent of both the parties and by spending more than his means.” In the video, the woman is saying, “After the marriage, when I went out in the city, I liked the roads of Ayodhya Dham, the beauty of ‘Lata Chowk’, the development and the atmosphere there. I praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in front of my husband.”
The woman said that on hearing this, her husband expressed his displeasure and sent her to her maternal home. Her maternal family members made her reconcile with her in-laws after which she came to her in-laws’ house. According to the complaint, at her in-laws’ house, her husband told her, “You people are crazy. There are too many police stations. You people can make as many laws as you want, but I give you ‘talaq, talaq, talaq’.”
In the video, the woman is alleging that her mother-in-law, younger sister-in-law and brothers-in-law strangled her and then everyone including her husband beat her up and threw her out of the house. She also alleged that her husband poured hot daal on her, which burnt her face. According to the woman, she has returned to her home. The victim has also filed a complaint on the Chief Minister’s portal. In it, she alleged that her husband Arshad is pressurizing her to arrange some money.
