Indore. Congress media and publicity cell chief Pawan Khera on Monday claimed that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not be able to complete its term. Khera said that due to its alleged stance of “non-compromise”, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cannot do coalition politics and hence its government will fall soon.
While talking to media persons in a “Samvad” program organized at the Press Club in Indore, the Congress leader said, “I can tell you with confidence that the Modi government does not seem to be completing its term.” When asked about the basis of this claim, he said that the BJP has lost its confidence due to being reduced to just 240 seats in the last Lok Sabha elections. He said, “When you (BJP) do not want to compromise, then you cannot do alliance politics. It has just begun. You will get the answer in the coming few months.” Kheda also said that if the BJP repeats the “old mistakes” of breaking the opposition parties, then it will have to pay the “brunt” of it very soon.
On BJP’s attacks against Congress for joining hands with National Conference which had made an election promise of restoration of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, he said, “How can you (BJP) question another national party on the election manifesto of any party? Let us come with our common minimum programme. You question this programme on which we are ready for discussion.” Kheda hit back saying that after the assembly elections held in Jammu and Kashmir about 10 years ago, BJP had joined hands with PDP which had allegedly said in its election manifesto that the currencies of both India and Pakistan should be used in this border state.
After levelling new allegations of conflict of interest against Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Chairperson Madhavi Puri Buch, Kheda said that if the government orders an inquiry into the matter, the SEBI chief should step forward and resign. On the Supreme Court’s strong comments on the cases of demolition of houses of accused in criminal cases by state governments, he said, “We are happy to hear the comments of the apex court. After this, we are hopeful that now some strong steps will be taken in this direction so that no elected government can take our country towards the model of neighboring countries where it seems to be going.”
