Side Effects Of Sugarcane Juice: To keep the body hydrated and cool in summer, we make many types of juices and drinks a part of our diet. Sugarcane juice is also included in such drinks. Sugarcane juice is not only tasty but is also rich in many nutrients. Sugarcane juice contains many nutrients including fiber, calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium and protein. Which makes it the best summer drink. Drinking sugarcane juice maintains the balance of electrolytes in the body and also improves digestion. Despite this, do you know that drinking excessive sugarcane juice in summer does not benefit a person’s health but causes harm. Yes, ICMR has declared sugarcane juice dangerous for health and advised people not to drink it.

Disadvantages of drinking sugarcane juice-

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has issued an advisory advising people not to drink too much sugarcane juice. ICMR says that due to the high amount of sugar present in sugarcane juice, it can make you sick. ICMR said that drinking sugarcane juice can increase the sugar level. This is because 13 to 15 grams of sugar is found in 100 ml of sugarcane juice. Whereas an adult should regularly consume a maximum of 30 grams of sugar. Consuming sugar in excess of this can harm health. Drinking more sugarcane juice than required can increase the risk of many diseases like obesity, BP, fatty liver, diabetes. According to ICMR’s guidelines, sugarcane juice is healthy for health only when it is consumed in limited quantities.

How much sugar should be consumed according to age-

According to medical experts, people above the age of 18 should not consume more than 30 grams of sugar. While children between 7 and 10 years should consume only 24 grams of sugar. Apart from sugarcane juice, ICMR has also advised people not to drink sugary drinks, tea, coffee and other caffeinated drinks, energy drinks and packaged fruit juices with added sugar.

ICMR’s advice-

ICMR has said that fruits rich in fibre and nutrition are a better option than juice for good health. In such a situation, those who cannot eat fruits should keep in mind that they should use only 100-150 grams of the whole fruit for one serving in juice.
