At the ‘International Indian Film Academy Awards 2024’ (IIFA) held in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, actor Shahrukh Khan was awarded the Best Actor award for the film ‘Jawaan’ while Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Animal’ received the Best Film award. Shahrukh along with actor Vicky Kaushal and filmmaker Karan Johar hosted the IIFA awards ceremony on Saturday.
Accepting the award, Shahrukh said, “During the making of ‘Jawaan’ we all were going through a bit of a difficult phase…it felt good to be back. I am extremely grateful for this award. I love awards, I crave awards… I have really made a comeback and I am really happy to end the year like this.” Shahrukh Khan’s film ‘Dil Se…’ director Mani Ratnam and composer A.R. Rahman gave the award to the actor. Shahrukh touched Mani Ratnam’s feet before receiving the award.
Actress Rani Mukherjee received the Best Actress award for her role in the film ‘Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway’.
When she was coming back from the stage after receiving the award, Shahrukh, who was her co-star in many films, held her pallu so that it did not fall on the ground. Mukherjee dedicated her award to mothers across the world. He said, “Receiving this award at IIFA feels even more special as it confirms the fact that ‘Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway’ touched the hearts of people globally.” Singer Shilpa Rao received the Best Playback Singer (Female) award for the song ‘Chaleya’ from the film ‘Jawaan’.
Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra received the Best Director award for his film ‘Twelfth Fail’ at the IIFA Awards.
Chopra said in his speech, “I want to use this platform to tell the world that they should cooperate in every possible way to save the world from destruction.” Actor Anil Kapoor received the Best Supporting Actor award and Bobby Deol received the Best Actor in a Negative Role category for the film ‘Animal’, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. After receiving the award, Deol also danced on the song ‘Jamal Kudu’ from the film ‘Animal’.
The film’s lead actor Ranbir Kapoor, who turned 42 on Saturday, did not attend the awards ceremony this year to celebrate his birthday with his family. Awards were also given to Pritam, Vishal Mishra, Manan Bhardwaj, Shreyas Puranik, Jani, Bhupinder Babbal, Ashim Kemson, Harshvardhan Rameshwar for music direction in the film ‘Animal’. Bhupinder Babbal received the Best Playback Singer (Male) award for the song ‘Arjan Valley’ from the film ‘Animal’, and he was also awarded the Best Lyricist award for the song ‘Satranga’. The film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ directed by Karan Johar has also received the award.
Actress Shabana Azmi, who played the role of grandmother of lead actress Alia Bhatt in the film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, also received the Best Supporting Actress award at the IIFA Awards, while writers Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan, Sumit Roy won the Best Story award. .
Veteran actress-leader Hema Malini was honored with the ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award for her outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. Actress Alizeh Agnihotri received the Best Debut Actress award, while Karan Boolani was awarded the Best Debut Director award for his film ‘Thank You for Coming’.
