New Delhi. India on Monday termed as “extremely regrettable” the incident of unauthorized entry by some people into the premises of Bangladesh’s Assistant High Commission in Agartala and said that under no circumstances should the consular properties be targeted.
The Ministry of External Affairs has made this comment at a time when thousands of people took out a huge rally near the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala, the capital of Tripura, in protest against the arrest of spiritual Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh and the attacks on minorities there. .
The Ministry of External Affairs said, “The incident of unauthorized entry into the Assistant High Commission premises of Bangladesh in Agartala today is extremely regrettable.” It was reported that more than 50 protesters allegedly entered the Bangladesh High Commission complex in Agartala in an unauthorized manner, causing concern among the officials at the complex. It is understood that the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi is registering a complaint at the Assistant High Commission in Agartala over the incident of “unauthorised entry”.
The Ministry of External Affairs said in its statement that the government is taking action to enhance the security of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and the country’s other missions in India. “Under no circumstances should diplomatic and consular properties be targeted,” he said. He said, “The government is taking action to enhance the security of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and its Deputy/Assistant High Commissions in the country.” Expressing serious concern over the increasing incidents of extreme rhetoric and violence in Bangladesh, India on Friday said that the interim government should fulfill its responsibility to protect all minorities.
India had also expressed hope that the case related to Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das, arrested on treason charges in Bangladesh, would be dealt with in a just, fair and transparent manner. Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister amid political turmoil in Bangladesh in August. Later, after the formation of the interim government under the leadership of Mohammad Yunus, tension arose in the relations between India and Bangladesh. India has been expressing concern over attacks on minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh.
