New York. India has started with a win in the T20 World Cup 2024. In its first match, the Indian team defeated Ireland by eight wickets at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. After losing the toss and batting first, the Ireland team was bowled out for 96 runs in 16 overs. In reply, Team India achieved the target by losing two wickets in 12.2 overs. Rishabh Pant finished the match by hitting a six with a reverse scoop off Barry McCarthy in the 13th over. Captain Rohit Sharma scored 52 runs for India. However, he retired hurt. The severity of his injury is not known so far. The Indian team has now come on top in Group-A with two points. Its next match is against arch-rival Pakistan on June 9.
