New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while attacking the opposition parties, said on Monday that internal democracy does not flourish in those parties which do not live democratic values and their condition can be seen in many parties of the country. He said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the only party which is expanding its work by strictly following the democratic processes as per the constitution of its party.
While launching the BJP membership drive, he said, “This membership drive is not just a ritual. It is an extension of our family… It is not a game of numbers. It does not matter how many numbers we achieve. This membership drive is an ideological and emotional movement.” Recalling the journey of the BJP from the era of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the Prime Minister said that this political party has tried its best to bring a new political culture in the country.
He said, “If the political party to which the people of the country entrust power does not live the democratic values, then internal democracy does not flourish in it. Then the situation arises which we are seeing in many parties of the country today.” He said, “BJP is the only party which is expanding its work by strictly following the democratic processes as per the constitution of its party and is continuously making itself capable to live up to the hopes and aspirations of the common people.”
Modi said that during the Jansangh era, workers used to paint diya (election symbol of Bharatiya Jansangh) on walls with great enthusiasm, but many political party leaders used to make fun of them saying that one cannot reach the corridors of power by painting diya on walls! He said, “We are those people who painted lotus (election symbol of BJP) on walls with devotion, because we believed that the lotus painted on the walls will someday get painted on hearts as well.” He said that even today in some states, BJP workers live the same life and struggle for their ideals.
He urged to connect the beneficiaries of various welfare schemes of the Central Government to the party and run a membership campaign in the border villages. He said, “Today the poor of the country have the most faith in the results of our policies, decisions and the paths we have adopted. Therefore, we have to move forward with that strength. I am confident that this membership campaign will break all the old records.”
