My daughter is 12 years old. Her height is increasing rapidly these days, but her weight is not increasing. What things should I especially include in her diet so that her weight can also increase a little?
-Sumedha, New Delhi
This is her growing age. It is possible that she is not getting enough nutrition through food, which is necessary for physical development at this time. To increase weight properly, include good sources of protein in the diet of the girl. Chicken, egg, fish, milk, curd and cheese etc. are good sources of protein. Include two additional protein-rich snacks in her diet and also ensure that one or two sources of protein such as pulses, milk and its products, egg and soybean etc. are included in each of her meals. Regular intake of protein-rich smoothies etc. will also help in gaining weight. Also include foods rich in calories and good fats such as nuts and roasted seeds etc. in the diet of the girl. Also ensure that she exercises regularly. This will also make her feel hungry.
• The use of baking soda has increased a lot in recipes these days. Is baking soda good for health? Can anything else be used as a substitute?

If baking soda is used in a balanced manner in baking and cooking, then it does not cause any harm. Baking soda is also known as sodium carbonate. It contains sodium, excessive consumption of which can increase the problem of swelling and bloating. People who have liver problems should avoid excessive consumption of baking soda. It also has antibacterial and antiviral properties, so it can also prove effective in providing relief in digestive problems.
I am 21 years old and I have a lot of acne problems. Can acne be controlled by including certain things in the diet?
– Sarita Verma, Ranchi
There can be many reasons for acne, but it is true that good eating habits play an important role in achieving the goal of getting clean and healthy skin. Every person’s body reacts differently to the same kind of food. That is, it is possible that consuming dry fruits, chocolate, cold drinks and caffeine etc. may not cause any harm to a person and some people may get allergic to any of these things. Write a food diary for a few weeks and try to know which food has a negative effect on your body. Increase the amount of foods rich in antioxidants such as carrots, broccoli, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables and strawberries etc. in your diet. Reduce the consumption of caffeine, sugar and refined flour etc. These foods can increase the activity of hormones that make the sebaceous gland more active. This gland is responsible for the production of oil on the skin. When the skin is more oily, the chances of getting acne will also be more. Make fruit and vegetable juices a part of your diet. Carrots, apples and ginger help the body fight acne. Include acne-fighting foods like carrots, fish, avocado and pomegranate in your diet. Increase the amount of fiber in the diet. Drink eight to ten glasses of water throughout the day to flush out toxins from the body.
