Janjgir-Champa. A couple and their two sons allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at their home in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district, police said on Sunday. All the family members were found in critical condition on Friday after which they were admitted to different hospitals, but they succumbed during treatment on Saturday, an official said.
An official said that the deceased have been identified as Panchram Yadav (66), his wife Dinesh Nandini (55) and sons Suraj (27) and Neeraj (32). They were residents of Bodha Talab area under Kotwali police station. He said that Panchram was a former office bearer of the district unit of Congress.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Janjgir-Champa, Rajendra Jaiswal said, “The family members consumed poison on August 30 and were admitted to the district hospital. But later Neeraj was shifted to Chhattisgarh Ayurved Sansthan (CMS) in Bilaspur and three others were admitted to a private hospital.” He said that no suicide note has been recovered from the spot. The officer said that the reason for the family committing suicide is not yet known. He said that a case of accidental death has been registered in connection with this incident.
A police officer said that preliminary investigation revealed that the family had locked the main door of their house from outside and then committed suicide by consuming poison. He said that when a neighbour who often visits the house found the door locked, she suspected something was wrong and informed others about it.
The officer said that when relatives and neighbors broke the door and entered the house, all the family members were found in critical condition and were admitted to the district hospital. According to locals, Yadav’s family was in debt. Panchram was a contractor, while his sons had started a business in which they suffered huge losses.
