Hakimuddin Nasir, Mahasamund. Under the Ujjwala scheme, which was started with the aim of liberating women from the kitchen, a big problem has come to light in Mahasamund district. Dozens of beneficiaries were given the benefits of the Ujjwala scheme on paper and the subsidy also started coming into their accounts, but till date the beneficiaries have neither seen the stove nor the gas of the Ujjwala scheme and are still forced to cook food by burning wood. Distressed women are now pleading with the collector to provide gas. The top officials are assuring action after investigation.
These women are standing in the Collectorate premises for applications. These are the same victimized women who belong to Gram Panchayat Kosrangi of Mahasamund district. In whose village about 6-7 months ago, through a camp, gas and stove of Ujjwala scheme was distributed to three out of 27 eligible beneficiaries by Gaurav Gas Agency. The remaining 24 eligible beneficiaries were soon put off by saying that they would be given gas and stove under the Ujjwala scheme. Eligible women came to Gaurav Gas Agency several times and demanded gas, stove and connection certificate. But every time the agency operator asked to give the connection. The limit reached when the eligible women updated their bank pass books and the LPG gas subsidy of Rs 261 was credited to their accounts four-five times. After that the women came to know that neither did they get the gas under Ujjwala scheme nor the subsidy on stove was coming into their accounts as per their accounts and hence they were cheated somewhere. After that, the victimized women reached the collectorate and are pleading with the collector to provide them the benefits of the scheme.
In this whole matter, Additional Collector Nirbhay Sahu says that the women have complained about not getting gas, stove and subsidy not coming into their account. An investigation will be conducted and appropriate action will be taken.
According to the information received from the Food Department, a total of 2 lakh 356 beneficiaries in Mahasamund district have been given the benefits of the scheme from 18 gas agencies of the district and this case of one gas agency has come to light. If the administration investigates this closely, more cases may come to light.
