J&K bus terror attack: 50 people detained, probe widened to remote areas

Jammu. Fifty people have been detained in connection with the investigation into the recent terror attack on a bus full of pilgrims in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. Police gave this information on Thursday. Police said that to ensure a comprehensive investigation, the scope of the search operation to nab the terrorists has been extended to far-flung areas like Arnas and Mahaur in Reasi district, which used to be the stronghold of terrorists between 1995 and 2005.

A bus carrying pilgrims from Shivkhodi temple to Mata Vaishnodevi was attacked by terrorists on Sunday. After the firing, the bus fell into a ditch, killing nine people and injuring 49 others. The bus was carrying pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi. A police spokesperson confirmed that 50 suspects have been taken into custody and said that the police is conducting a thorough investigation.

He said, “Important clues have emerged which are helping in identifying and arresting those who may have a hand in the entire conspiracy of this attack. To ensure a comprehensive investigation, the scope of the search operation has been extended to remote areas like Arnas and Mahore.” He said that the aim of these operations is to gather as much evidence as possible and catch the terrorists who may be hiding in these remote areas.

The police has already released a sketch of one of the terrorists. It has also announced a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh for providing clues leading to the elimination of the criminals. The spokesperson said, “The law enforcement agencies are committed to bring the culprits to justice and ensure the safety of all the residents and visitors/tourists of this area.” Reasi Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma has appealed to the people to be cautious and immediately report any suspicious activity to the administration.
