Kamya Karthikeyan becomes the youngest Indian to scale Everest

New Delhi/Jamshedpur. Kamya Karthikeyan has become the youngest Indian to conquer the world’s highest mountain peak Mount Everest from Nepal. She achieved this feat at the age of 16. Jamshedpur-based Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) gave this information on Thursday. A TSAF official who assisted in this mountaineering said that Kamya conquered the peak of Everest with her father and Indian Navy Commander S. Karthikeyan. He said that father and daughter reached the 8,849 meter high peak of Everest on May 20. Kamya, the daughter of a naval officer, is a student of class XII in ‘Navy Bal Vidyalaya’ in Mumbai.

A statement issued by the Navy said, “With this success, Kamya has become the second youngest girl in the world to climb the world’s highest peak and the first youngest Indian mountaineer to conquer Everest from Nepal.” The Indian Navy shared Kamya’s pictures on the social media platform ‘X’.

He said, “Kamya has demonstrated immense courage and patience in climbing the highest peaks in six of the seven continents.” TSAF President Chanakya Chaudhary said in a statement, “We are extremely proud of Kamya Karthikeyan’s extraordinary achievement of conquering Mount Everest at such a young age. His journey was determined, meticulous preparation and unwavering determination. It is proof of the spirit of determination.” Kamya has been honored with the Prime Minister’s National Bal Shakti Award. This award is given to children in the country for their extraordinary achievements.
