New Delhi: BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut has received death threats. The actress sought help from the police on Tuesday (August 28). Some people have threatened her on social media regarding the release of her next film ‘Emergency’. Its video has also surfaced on social media. Kangana Ranaut is playing the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film. She was threatened after the trailer of the film was released on social media.
In the video, six people are seen sitting in a circle in a room. Two of them are dressed like Nihang Sikhs. One of them says that if the film is released, the Sikh community will condemn it. He says, “Your film will be welcomed with slippers.”
“If the film shows him (Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale) as a terrorist, remember what happened to the person (Indira Gandhi) whose film you are doing,” warned another man named Vicky Thomas Singh, who describes himself as a social media influencer on X and has regularly shared videos praising Bhindranwale. He also talked about Indira Gandhi’s bodyguards Satwant Singh and Beant Singh who assassinated the former prime minister in 1984. The actress shared the post and tagged the Maharashtra Director General of Police, Himachal Police and Punjab Police. “Please look into this,” she wrote on X.
Kangana Ranaut said – Indira Gandhi is not just Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother…
Kangana Ranaut reached to meet the party’s national president JP Nadda on Thursday. It is being told that Nadda has advised Kangana to avoid making any objectionable statement and has suggested the choice of words. Actress-turned-politician Kangana had recently made an objectionable statement regarding the farmers’ movement, after which the party distanced itself from her statement.
When the controversy over Kangana’s statement started increasing, on August 26, BJP issued a statement and expressed disagreement with Kangana’s statement. The party said in the statement that Kangana is not allowed to speak on the party’s policy issues and neither is she authorized to make a statement on behalf of the party. In an interview on Wednesday, Kangana admitted her mistake and said that she would be careful in choosing her words.
What statement did Kangana give?
Kangana had said that during the farmers’ agitation against the 3 agricultural laws, bodies were seen hanging and rapes were taking place. She blamed selfish and foreign forces for the continuation of the protests and said that if the top leadership had not been strong, Punjab would have become Bangladesh during the farmers’ movement. The opposition was attacking the BJP on her comment. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also condemned the statement.
What is the reason behind the protest against the film?
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Harjinder Singh Dhami has called the film anti-Sikh. He has also demanded that an FIR be registered against the film and Kangana. Not only this, he also criticized the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for passing the film and has also demanded the inclusion of representatives of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to analyze the facts of the film. At the same time, an Australia-based Sikh council has termed ‘Emergency’ a propaganda film and alleged that it distorts historical events and is ‘insulting’ to Sikh martyrs.
