Kasaragod: The death toll in the recent fireworks accident at a temple near Nileshwaram in Kasaragod district on Saturday took the death toll to five as one more person died. The officers provided this information.
Rajith, who sustained severe burn injuries, was being treated at a private hospital in Mangaluru and died in the morning, officials said. An official said, “He was burnt more than 50 percent.” Earlier, four people had lost their lives in this accident that took place during fireworks in the temple, after which now the number of people who lost their lives in this accident has increased. According to the Kasaragod district administration, 154 people were injured in the accident, of which 100 were admitted to various hospitals. The district administration said that as of November 8, 63 out of 100 were being treated in various hospitals, of which nine were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The incident took place late night on October 28 at Anjuttanabalam Veererkavu temple near Nileshwar. This fire incident occurred due to the explosion of firecrackers kept at a nearby place. In connection with this incident, a case has been registered under various sections of the Explosive Substances Act and the Indian Justice Code (BNS), and three people, including two officials of the temple committee, have been arrested.
