New Delhi. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will seek the opinion of experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on the DNA and forensic reports related to the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. Officials gave this information on Tuesday. Officials said that the CBI will send its report to AIIMS and seek the opinion of its experts to strengthen the case.
According to officials, these reports will also help the agency to find out whether Sanjay Roy was the only one involved in the crime or there were others involved with him. The CBI has filed an application in a Kolkata court seeking permission to conduct a polygraph test of Kolkata Police Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Anup Dutta. Officials said that the agency is investigating whether Dutta knew Roy and whether he helped the accused after the crime. They said that the CBI has already questioned Dutta in connection with the case.
Officials said that according to the clues worked on by the agency so far, only Roy was involved in the crime but the involvement or non-involvement of other people will be clear only after getting the opinion of experts from AIIMS. The ‘polygraph’ test of former Principal of Medical College Sandeep Ghosh continued on Tuesday for the second day. His ‘layered voice analysis’ was done on Saturday, after which the polygraph test was done on Monday. The investigation could not be completed on Monday and was resumed on Tuesday.
‘Layered Voice Analysis’ is a new type of lie detection test. It is used to detect the reaction of the accused when he lies. However, it does not identify the lie. This technique identifies stress and emotional signals in different qualities of the voice. There have been protests across the country after the rape and murder of a junior doctor in a hospital auditorium. The body of the woman doctor was found on August 9, after which Kolkata Police arrested Roy the next day on the basis of CCTV footage.
CCTV footage shows Roy entering the auditorium at 4.30 am on August 9 when the incident was allegedly committed. Based on the CCTV footage, Roy was questioned thoroughly and the police also noticed ‘recent injuries’ on his left cheek, a scratch between two fingers on his left hand, a scratch on the back of his left thigh, etc., which indicate a struggle. Samples of the accused’s semen, hair, nails, etc. were collected, officials said.
The Calcutta High Court had on August 13 ordered the transfer of the investigation from the Kolkata Police to the CBI. The CBI took over the investigation on August 14. The CBI took over all forensic evidence from the Kolkata Police and also conducted polygraph tests on Roy, former principal of the medical college Sandip Ghosh, four doctors who were on duty with the victim and Roy to get further information about the crime. Officials said the preliminary report of the CFSL (Central Forensic Science Laboratory) is being analysed and matched with the evidence.
