Korba: Four people died due to alleged leakage of poisonous gas from a well, second incident in a single day

Korba. Four people, including a father and daughter, died on Friday due to alleged leakage of poisonous gas from a well in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district, police said. In another similar incident, five people died in the state’s Janjgir-Champa district today. Police officials said Jaharu Patel (60), his daughter Sapina Patel (16), Shivcharan alias Kaliram Patel (45) and Manbodh Patel (57) died due to alleged leakage of poisonous gas from a well in Jurali village under Katghora police station area in Korba district.

He said that according to the family members, Jaharu Patel suddenly fell into the well while working this afternoon and after knowing this, Sapina went down the well to save him but both could not come out. Officials said that after this two other members of the family, Shivcharan and Manbodh, went down the well to take out the father-daughter but they too could not come out. He said that later the family members informed the police about this incident, then the police team reached the spot and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team was also sent there.

Korba district’s Superintendent of Police Siddharth Tiwari said that the police suspect that all of them were affected by poisonous gas in the well. However, Tiwari says that more information will be available in this regard only after investigation. On Friday morning, five people including a father and son died in a similar incident in Kikirda village of Birra police station area in Janjgir-Champa district of the state.
