New Delhi: Due to uproar by opposition members on various issues, the Lok Sabha meeting was adjourned for the day at 12.10 pm, about 10 minutes after resuming after a single adjournment on Friday.

The winter session of Parliament began on November 25 and no important legislative business could be transacted in the first week due to uproar by opposition members. As soon as Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla started the Question Hour after the House proceedings began, members of Congress and SP came near the podium and started raising slogans. While Congress members were raising the issue related to Adani Group, SP MPs were seen raising the issue of Sambhal violence.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla appealed to the opposition members to go to their places and allow the proceedings of the House to proceed. Amidst the uproar, Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda also answered some supplementary questions.

Birla told the opposition members who were shouting slogans during this time, “The people of the country want the House to function.” Many respected scholars have written that Parliament should function, there should be discussion and dialogue. Consent and disagreement are the strengths of our democracy. I request you to cooperate in running the House as per the sentiments of the people and their hopes and aspirations. Today health and women are being discussed in question hour. Question Hour is your time.

He also said, “The people of the country are expressing concern about the MPs and the Parliament. You let the House run. You go to your place, I will give you ample opportunity to discuss every topic as per rules and procedures.” Despite repeated appeals by Birla, sloganeering by Congress and SP MPs standing near the podium continued. When the uproar did not stop, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha adjourned the proceedings of the House at around 11.10 am till 12 noon.

When the meeting of the Lower House resumed at 12 noon, Presiding Chairman Dilip Saikia got the necessary documents placed on the table of the House. Opposition members came near the chair and started raising slogans. Saikia appealed to the creating ruckus members to sit in their places and allow the proceedings to continue.

He told the opposition members who were shouting slogans near the Asan, “This method of yours is not right. You play the role of positive opposition. Because of you, the House is not functioning, the country is watching.” As the noise continued, he adjourned the House meeting for the day at around 12.10 pm.
