Madhya Pradesh: Security forces killed Naxalite carrying a bounty of Rs 14 lakh in an encounter

Bhopal. A Naxalite carrying a bounty of Rs 14 lakh was killed in an encounter with security forces in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday. A senior police officer gave this information. Additional Director General (ADG) of anti-Naxal operations Jaideep Prasad told reporters in Bhopal that the encounter took place in Kathiatola forest area under Hatta police station. He said that the Hawk Force of the state police had received information that some Naxalites had reached Kathiatoli village to take ration and daily use items.

The officer said that during the search operation, the Hawk Force called out to a group of 10-12 Naxalites in the forest for questioning, but they started firing. He said that when the police retaliated, the Naxalites hiding in the dense forest and hills fled from the spot. The officer said that the police later recovered the body of Sohan alias Ukas alias Ayutu. He said that the search for other people injured in the firing is going on.

He said that Aytu, a resident of Sukma district of neighbouring Chhattisgarh, was an expert in making IEDs and eight cases were registered against him in Madhya Pradesh. The officer said that the deceased Naxalite was active in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra and had a reward of Rs 14 lakh on his head. He said that the police have recovered a 315 bore rifle and a wireless set from the deceased. The officer said that in the last five years, at least 19 Naxalites were killed in Madhya Pradesh, who had a total reward of Rs 3.14 crore on them in three states.
