Maharashtra Elections: CEC Rajiv Kumar condemns derogatory remarks on women during election campaign

The Uncut

Mumbai: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar on Friday condemned derogatory comments made against women during the Maharashtra Assembly election campaign and directed officials to take strict action against those making such comments. Sources gave this information.

Addressing a review meeting of officials through video conference with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, Kumar condemned the derogatory and indecent comments targeted at women leaders and asked officials to take action in such cases.

Sources said that Police Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, District Election Officer, Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Election Officer attended the meeting here. The Election Commission had earlier directed political parties and candidates to avoid any action, move or statement that is considered prejudicial to the honor and dignity of women.

Sources said the CEC said there should be no criticism of any aspect of private life which is not linked to the public activities of leaders or workers of other political parties. He directed to take action against those committing low-level personal attacks. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant has recently been in controversy for making objectionable remarks against Shiv Sena’s Mumbadevi candidate Shaina NC.
