Mahavriksharopan Abhiyan: 140 crore trees will be planted by March 2025

Raipur. The main objective of the “One Tree in the Name of Mother” Mahavriksharopan Abhiyan is to maintain environmental balance by planting as many saplings as possible and making the state green. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the “One Tree in the Name of Mother” tree plantation campaign on World Environment Day, 05 June 2024. Under this campaign, it is proposed to plant 80 crore trees in the country by September 2024 and 140 crore trees by March 2025. Under the “One Tree in the Name of Mother” Mahavriksharopan Abhiyan, 03 crore 85 lakh saplings will be planted in forest and non-forest areas by the Forest Department in the state of Chhattisgarh.

In the state, the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ mega tree plantation campaign will be held at Biodiversity Park, Atal Nagar, Nava Raipur on July 11 at 4 pm under the chief guestship of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and under the chairmanship of Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap. Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, Vijay Sharma and MP Raipur Brijmohan Agarwal, MLA Abhanpur, Indra Kumar Sahu, Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Additional Chief Secretary of Forest and Climate Change Department Mrs. Richa Sharma, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief of Forest Force V. Srinivas Rao will be present as special guests in the mega tree plantation campaign.

Chief Minister Sai has called for naming the plantation sites after local deities. In all the districts of the state, plantation programmes will be organised at village and panchayat level with the participation of public representatives. Under the plantation campaign being run under this scheme, fruit plants like Aag, Jamun, Bel, Jackfruit, Sitaphal, Pomegranate, Mulberry, Plum, Tendu, Gangaimli and minor forest produce and medicinal plants like Harra, Baheda, Amla, Neem, Putranjiva, Kala Siras, Reetha, Chitrak etc. are being planted.

In urban areas, shade-bearing species like Banyan, Peepal, Maulshree, Kadam, Plectraform, Gulmohar, Karanja, Ashoka, Arjun along with other species are being planted. Under this campaign, tree plantation work is being done in all schools, hostels, Anganwadi centres, police posts, hospitals, government premises, government and non-government land, vacant land of various industrial institutions under this Mahavriksharopan Abhiyan.

Under the Mahavriksharopan Abhiyan, tree plantation will be done by taking the cooperation of all the government departments, non-governmental organizations, voluntary organizations, forest management committee members, panchayat institutions at all levels, school and college students, dignitaries and public representatives and ensuring their participation.
