Mahela Jayawardene again appointed head coach of Mumbai Indians

The Uncut

Mumbai. Five-time IPL champion Mumbai Indians has made a big change before the mega auction and appointed former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene as its head coach. Jayawardene was associated with Mumbai Indians in the same role from 2017-2022. The franchise won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2017, 2019 and 2020-21. Jayawardene will thus replace former South African wicketkeeper batsman Mark Boucher, who was the head coach of Mumbai Indians for two years.

Mumbai Indians qualified for the knockouts in the 2023 phase but their performance this year was very poor in which the team could win only four out of 14 matches. Jayawardene said in a release issued by the franchise, “My journey in the Mumbai Indians family has always been one of growth. In 2017 the focus was on building a group of talented players to play the best cricket and we performed very well. “He said, “Now the opportunity to return in the same role and continue to contribute to the history of Mumbai Indians is an exciting challenge that I am eagerly looking forward to.” ,
