Maoists killed, policeman injured in encounter in Odisha

Malkangiri. A Maoist was killed and a policeman was injured in an encounter between security forces and Maoists in Jineliguda forest near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border. Police gave this information on Thursday. A senior officer said the firing took place on Wednesday night when police personnel launched an operation to prevent the entry of Maoists into Odisha through the forest in Malkangiri district.

He said that two Maoists were also arrested during the operation. He said that the injured policeman has been identified as Damru Badnayak and has been admitted to Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital. The officer said that the identity of the deceased Maoist has not been established yet. He said, “During this period the firing continued for two hours. “Later the police started a search operation in the area.”
