New Delhi: The MCD on Friday demolished around 45 huts in south-east Delhi’s Okhla as part of an anti-encroachment drive, officials said. Some residents alleged that they were not given enough time to move out their belongings.
On these allegations, the civic body said that eviction notices were issued on August 27. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said in a statement that the demolition drive was carried out amid tight security in JJ Cluster (slum) in Phase 2 of Okhla.
“The encroachment removal drive was carried out with the help of police force and around 45 shanties were removed from along the service lane in Okhla Industrial Phase-2,” an official told PTI.
