Ear. In the name of cinema, there are only two cinema halls in Meghalaya, but the short film ‘Rimdogittanga’ in Garo language of this small state created history in France. Film director Dominic Sangma’s film ‘Rimdogittanga’ (Rapture) was released in 33 cities and 36 theaters in France, which includes three theaters in Paris and one theater in Nice. The film is doing well and it has been two weeks since its release.
Film director Dominic Sangma said, “When I got the news of the release of ‘Rimdogittanga’ (Rapture) in France, I was very happy. It is the dream of any director to have his films released in theatres.” He said, “Many of us in India are struggling to find distributors and sales agents who can take our films across the world.” Sangma said, “There are many independent films in our country which have not been released in theatres.” Sangma was fortunate.
The film ‘Rimdogittanga’ is a very simple film which shows to what extent religion and social bonds affect the sense of good and evil of a close-knit community. Sangma said, “There are only two cinema halls in Meghalaya. One is in Shillong and the other is in Burnihat.” He said, “I come from Garo Hills region, but there is not a single cinema hall there. So the chances of my film being released in my state are almost negligible.”
