Modi and Shah on three-day visit to Odisha, will discuss internal security in DGP conference

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Odisha on Friday on a three-day visit and will participate in the All India Director General of Police/Inspector General of Police Conference starting here from today. The Prime Minister, in a series of posts on ‘X’ before his visit, said, “Senior police officers from all over India will participate in this (DGP/IGP) conference.” There will be extensive discussions on further strengthening India’s internal security system. Various aspects related to improving policing and public safety will be discussed.

According to the official itinerary, first Shah will reach Odisha capital Bhubaneswar and then Modi will land at Biju Patnaik International Airport at around 4.20 pm. Keeping in mind the traffic arrangements made for the event, the state government on Friday announced closure of all schools in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation area at 1 pm, an official release said. Prime Minister Modi will go to Raj Bhavan at 5 pm. He will preside over the party meeting at the BJP office from 6 pm to 8:30 pm. After this he will go back to Raj Bhavan and rest for the night.

The Prime Minister wrote in another post on ‘X’, ‘This afternoon, I will also address an event organized by Odisha BJP in Bhubaneswar. Since assuming power in June this year, the BJP government of Odisha has been at the forefront in promoting the development of the state. The state government is taking several measures to improve the lives of the poor and deprived communities. The Prime Minister will attend the DGP conference on Saturday and Sunday.

According to an official statement, the conference, to be held from November 29 to December 1, 2024, will deliberate on important aspects of national security, including terrorism, left-wing extremism, coastal security and new criminal laws.

The Prime Minister has encouraged the annual DGP/IGP Conference to be held across the country since 2014.
Earlier, Guwahati (Assam), Rann of Kutch (Gujarat), Hyderabad (Telangana), Tekanpur (Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh), Statue of Unity (Kevadiya, Gujarat), Pune (Maharashtra), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), New Delhi and The conference has been organized in Jaipur (Rajasthan).

The conference will also be attended by Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, National Security Advisor, Minister of State (Home Affairs), Director Generals of Police of States/UTs and heads of central police organizations. Meanwhile, DGPs of all states and union territories and heads of various security agencies have already reached the Odisha capital for the conference.
