New Delhi. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday claimed before a court here that the money earned from the excise ‘scam’ was spent as per the wishes of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who had promised to give Rs 90 lakh each to his party’s candidate in the 2022 Goa Assembly elections. The CBI made this argument before Special Judge Kaveri Baveja, who extended the judicial custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till September 3 in the corruption case related to the excise policy ‘scam’.
The CBI urged the court to take cognizance of the chargesheet filed against Kejriwal and others. The CBI told the court, “The money has been spent as per Kejriwal’s wish…all the money was given for funding the Aam Aadmi Party. He (Kejriwal) had promised to give Rs 90 lakh to each candidate of each constituency and there are 40 constituencies in Goa.” The court reserved the order on taking cognizance of the chargesheet till September 3.
