Naxalism is in final stage, will be uprooted in one and a half years: CRPF ADG

The Uncut

Bhopal. A top Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) official on Monday said that Naxalism is mainly limited to two or three districts of Chhattisgarh and that left-wing extremism will become history in the next one and a half years. CRPF Additional Director General (ADG) Amit Kumar, who is involved in anti-Maoist operations, said that the Naxal movement is in its final stages.

ADG Kumar told reporters in response to a question, “The Naxalite movement is passing through its last phase. “In the national scenario, except two or three districts of Chhattisgarh, it is completely under control in all other areas.” The ADG was the chief guest at the passing out parade of a new batch of sub-inspectors at the CRPF Recruitment Training Center in Neemuch city, about 400 km from Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal.

He said that some other states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka and Kerala which were earlier affected by Left Wing Extremism have now become Naxal free. ADG Kumar said that apart from two to three districts of Chhattisgarh, a Naxalite group is active in a part of one district of Jharkhand.

The CRPF officer said that there was a time when 120 districts across the country were affected by the armed Maoist movement. He said that now the traces of Naxalism are limited to only a few districts and that too are limited to some parts of these districts. Kumar said, “This (Naxalism) will become a part of history in one to one and a half years.”
