Chennai. Chennai police said on Tuesday that investigation of CCTV footage and questioning of witnesses did not confirm the claim of a 24-year-old man that his sacred thread was cut and thrown away in Tirunelveli. Police gave this information on Tuesday. Police said that five CCTV footages were examined and six witnesses were also questioned.
A press release issued by the state police headquarters said, “In the investigation so far, there is no evidence of any person coming on a two-wheeler to the said place and at that time and cutting the sacred thread of Akhilesh.” The police said that in the CCTV footage, Akhilesh was found talking to people without any worry or trouble. However, it has continued the investigation about this alleged incident.
According to the complaint, Akilesh (24)’s poonul (sacred thread) was chopped off and thrown away by three motorcycle-borne men who had earlier mocked him for wearing the sacred thread.
The incident allegedly took place on the evening of September 21 in Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli when Akhilesh was on his way to attend a bhajan programme at the local ‘Aastik Samaj’ run by Brahmins. According to the complaint, he was wearing only a dhoti and was on his way to attend the programme when three men on a motorcycle allegedly stopped him and cut off his sacred thread and threw it away, mocking him and telling him not to wear it again.
