New Delhi. The Congress on Wednesday alleged that the idea of ’one nation, one election’ is not practical and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants to divert attention from the real issues in the assembly elections through this. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge claimed that the country will never accept this idea. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal of ‘one nation, one election’ as recommended by the Kovind Committee. The report of the high-level committee constituted on ‘one nation, one election’ was presented before the Union Cabinet on Wednesday. The committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind submitted the report in March before the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections.
Kharge posted on ‘X’, “One Nation, One Election is only a BJP issue to divert attention. It is against the Constitution, against democracy, against federalism. The country will never accept it.” Earlier, he told reporters, “This is not practical, it is not going to work… At the time of elections, when issues are not being found, such things are said to divert attention from real issues.” Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that ‘One Nation, One Election’ is a meaningless idea.
