Paris Diamond League: Avinash Sable breaks his national steeplechase record, Jena finishes eighth

The Uncut

Paris. Avinash Sable broke his own national record in the 3000m steeplechase by finishing sixth in 8 minutes 9.91 seconds at the Diamond League competition in Paris on Sunday, showing that he is getting into the rhythm for the first time ahead of the Paris Olympics.

The 29-year-old Sable broke his previous national record of 8:11.20 seconds, which he set in 2022. Thus, he improved his time by one and a half seconds. Ethiopia’s Abraham Sime finished first in a ‘photo finish’ from Kenya’s Amos Serem (8:02.36) with a time of 8:02.36. Abraham Kibiwott of Kenya finished third with a time of 8:06.70.

Sable had set a national record two years ago by winning a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and he was successful in breaking it. This was his 10th national record-breaking performance. At the same time, Olympic team member Kishore Jena’s struggle continued in the men’s javelin throw event and he finished eighth with an effort of 78.10 meters. His best performance is 87.54 meters and the season’s best performance is 80.84 meters.

Jena, who won a silver medal in the Asian Games last year, has not performed well this season. He threw 76.31 meters in the Doha Diamond League and 75.49 meters in the Federation Cup. Current Olympic and world champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra decided not to play in this competition due to a thigh problem.
