New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted the countrymen on the occasion of National Sports Day and paid tribute to the great hockey player Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary. National Sports Day is celebrated every year on August 29 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand.
“Greetings on National Sports Day. On this day, we pay tribute to Major Dhyan Chand,” Modi said in a post on social media platform X. “This is an occasion to congratulate all those who are passionate about sports and who have played for India. Our government is committed to supporting sports and ensuring that more and more young people are able to play and shine,” he added.
