Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday interacted with beneficiaries of the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme’ in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat. The Prime Minister reached Shalin-2 Society in Vavol at around 10 am and interacted with several residents who have installed solar panels on the roofs of their houses under the ambitious Rs 75,021 crore scheme of the Central Government launched on February 29.
The Prime Minister stayed in this residential complex for about 20 minutes. The objective of this scheme is to enable residential families to generate their own electricity by installing solar panels on the roofs of their houses. Under this, a subsidy of 60 percent of the solar unit cost is given for systems up to two kilowatts of capacity and 40 percent of the additional cost is given for systems of two to three kilowatts of capacity.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investors Summit and Exhibition (RE-INVEST 2024) on Monday during the day. It will have around 40 sessions, including a plenary meeting of chief ministers, a chief executive officer (CEO) roundtable and technical sessions, an official release said.
