PM Modi’s ‘billionaire rule’ is more unequal than British rule: Congress

The Uncut

New Delhi. The Congress on Thursday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “billionaire raj” is more unequal than the British Raj. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh also claimed that the Indian government has maintained silence when many countries across the world are coming together on the idea of a “billionaire tax”.

Ramesh posted on ‘X’, “India has created a new billionaire every five days in 2023. The list of billionaires is topped by the closest friends of the non-biological Prime Minister.” He alleged, “Narendra Modi’s billionaire rule is more unequal than the British rule. But this is also the basis of economic policy making of this government.” Ramesh said that this is the reason why at a time when countries across the world are uniting on the idea of ’billionaire tax’, India is apparently silent and turning a blind eye to the rapidly growing economic inequalities.

The President should express the anger of the entire country, not just one state: Congress

The Congress on Thursday welcomed President Draupadi Murmu’s remarks in the backdrop of the rape and murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata and said it would be good if she expressed the anger of the entire country and not of any particular region or state.

President Draupadi Murmu, in a special article for ‘PTI-Bhasha’, while expressing outrage over crimes against women and calling for curbing it, had said that enough is enough. The President said that now the time has come for India to be aware of such “distortions” and fight the mindset that sees women as “less powerful”, “less capable” and “less intelligent”.

Reacting to President Murmu’s remarks, Congress media and publicity department chief Pawan Khera said, “I welcome this statement and intervention of the President. The whole country is angry. So it is natural that the President represents the anger that the country is feeling, but the anger of the country is not just about the Kolkata incident. Farrukhabad, Kolhapur, Badlapur, Pune, Ratnagiri, Jodhpur, Katni, there have been so many such incidents.” He claimed that every day we get to hear about some incident or the other in Uttar Pradesh. Khera said that it would be good if the President represents the anger prevailing across the country.
