Prime Minister paid tribute to Bapu on Gandhi Jayanti, paid tribute to Shastri

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 155th birth anniversary and said that his life based on truth, harmony and equality will always remain an inspiration for the countrymen.

Modi also paid tribute to India’s second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary. Modi said in a post on ‘X’, “On behalf of all the countrymen, we pay our respects to respected Bapu on his birth anniversary. His life and ideals based on truth, harmony and equality will always remain an inspiration for the countrymen.

Later, the Prime Minister also visited Bapu’s tomb at Rajghat in the capital and paid tribute to him by offering flowers. On this occasion, an all-religion prayer meeting was also organized there, in which senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) including Union Ministers were also present.

Paying tribute to Shastri, Modi said, “Respectful tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri ji, who dedicated his life for the country’s soldiers, farmers and self-respect, on his birth anniversary.” Also paid tribute.

Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. His birthday is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti as well as International Day of Non-Violence. He led the fight to liberate India from British rule. The lesson taught by him of non-violent protest is still remembered with respect all over the world.

At the same time, Shastri was the second Prime Minister of India. He was born on 2 October 1904 in Uttar Pradesh. People were impressed by his simplicity and humility. He gave the slogan ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’ during the India-Pakistan war of 1965.
