Pune administration considering ‘webcasting’ to monitor entry and exit of pubs…

The Uncut

Pune: The Pune district administration in Maharashtra is considering webcasting the entry and exit points of pubs and bars in the city to ensure better compliance with the rules, an official said on Saturday.

District Magistrate Suhas Divase said the plan for webcasting or live broadcasting on the internet comes in the backdrop of a car accident in the city’s Kalyani Nagar area in the early hours of Sunday, in which a 17-year-old teenager driving a Porsche car allegedly crushed two persons.

The official said no minor should be allowed to enter a bar or pub and these establishments must adhere to the stipulated time limit for operations. He said there have also been allegations by citizens that bars and restaurants remain open even after their stipulated closing time.

Divase said, “In the current system, it is difficult to physically monitor (outside bars and pubs) what is actually happening there but with the help of new technologies like webcasting, it is possible. We successfully used webcasting during elections and more than 50 per cent of polling stations were webcasted and we could see what was happening there.”
