New Delhi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday alleged that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is against reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes and his prejudice against this provision of the Constitution came out in the open during his interaction with students of Georgetown University in the US. The BJP made this allegation when Gandhi told the students at this prestigious university that the Congress will think about ending reservation only when everyone in the country starts getting equal opportunities and at present such a situation does not exist in India.
Former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Rahul’s comment, “Rahul Gandhi, who argued and claimed to save the Constitution, said in America that he (his party) will end reservation when the conditions are fair.” Senior BJP leader Prasad said, “Along with this, the bias towards reservation was also seen in America. The Congress leader’s campaign to save the Constitution and reservation is nothing but a sham.” Prasad alleged that former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were also against giving reservation to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes.
He also targeted the opposition parties’ alliance ‘India’ and asked Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief MK Stalin, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and leaders of the Left parties to break their silence on Gandhi’s remarks. He said, “I want to warn that if the Congress tries to tamper with the provision of reservation or abolish it, then the BJP will strongly oppose it.”
