Raigarh: The body of an absconding accused in the gangrape case of a tribal girl in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district has been recovered from neighbouring Odisha, police officials said on Thursday.
Raigarh Superintendent of Police (CSP) Akash Shukla said that there were a total of eight accused in this gang rape case. Out of these, seven people including a 15-year-old minor have been arrested. The eighth absconding accused Sanjay Yadav (18) had fled to Odisha to escape the police.
Shukla said that Yadav was hiding in his maternal uncle’s house in Saraipali village under Rengali police station area in Jharsuguda district of Odisha. He said that he came in contact with the live electric wire laid there to protect the crops from wild animals and died.
The police officer said that the Rengali police has reached the spot and action is being taken against the person who laid the wire. Shukla said that after the statement of the victim (27) in this case of gang rape, seven out of the eight accused have been arrested and one has died.
He said that of the arrested persons, Rahul Chauhan (19), Monu Sahu (23), Rahul Khadiya (19), Uttam Mirdha (20), Narendra Sidar (23) and Bablu Dahriya (19) were sent to jail on judicial remand yesterday. The seventh accused (a 15-year-old minor) was sent to a juvenile home on Wednesday.
On the report of the victim, the Pusaur police station has registered a case of gang-rape against eight persons under sections 70 (1), 140 (3) and 351 (3) of the Indian Penal Code, the official said.
