The Uncut

Bhubaneswar: As Cyclone ‘Dana’ weakened into a low pressure area in Odisha, many parts of the state received light to moderate rain. India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave this information. The depression over North Odisha moved westwards during the last 6 hours and weakened into a low pressure area in the same region, the IMD said in the bulletin.

It is likely to weaken further and lose its effect during the next 12 hours. According to IMD sources, Aupada in Balasore district received the highest rainfall of 240 mm, followed by Dhamnagar in Bhadrak district at 215 mm, Khaira in Balasore district at 209 mm and Bont in Bhadrak district at 187 mm.

At least 16 places received more than 100 mm rainfall in the last 12 hours, including four places that received more than 200 mm rainfall, an official said. The state administration declared holiday on Saturday in schools in five districts Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara and Keonjhar.

An official said that since most of the schools are being used as shelter homes and accommodation for the displaced, the District Magistrates have declared holiday in the schools. Anganwadi centers will also remain closed in the districts most affected by the cyclone.

Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted light to moderate rain at many places in the districts of North Odisha and at some places in South Odisha. In the order issued by the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner, it was said that the state government has canceled the holidays of its employees on Saturday and Sunday.
