Raunak Dahiya gets bronze, three women wrestlers reach semi-finals of Under-17 World Wrestling Championship

Amman. Three Indian women wrestlers made it to the semi-finals of the ongoing Under-17 World Wrestling Championship here while Greco-Roman wrestler Raunak Dahiya won a bronze medal in the 110 kg weight category. Aditi Kumari defeated Karolina Shaperik (10-0) and Maryam Mohammed Abdelal (4-2) of Ukraine to enter the semi-finals of the 43 kg category of women’s wrestling where she will face Alexandra Berezovskaia.

Neha made it to the semi-finals of the 57 kg category without losing any points. After defeating Greece’s Myri Meni, she defeated Georgia’s Miranda Kepenadze on the basis of technical superiority. She will face Kazakhstan’s Anna Straten in the last four. Pulkit won 9-0 against Juliana Catanzaro after defeating China’s Ling Kei in the 65 kg category. She will face Egypt’s Maram Ibrahim Aly for a place in the final.

Raunak, ranked second in the world rankings of his age group, easily defeated Turkey’s Emrullah Capcan 6-1 in the bronze medal playoff. This is India’s first medal in the current championship. Earlier, Raunak lost to Hungary’s silver medalist Zoltan Kazako in the semi-finals. The gold medal in this category was won by Ukraine’s Ivan Yankovsky who defeated Kazako 13-4 on the basis of technical proficiency. India has a chance to win the second medal in the 51 kg repechage but for this Sainath Pardhi will have to defeat Musan Yerasil in the bronze medal playoff.
